I remember wearing cotton "Gilligan type" hats in the 80s and don't get me started on what Blossom did for me and my hat craze-love her! Fake flowers and floral prints, yeah baby! I loved Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when she went to the polo match--too cute! And I have to admit that I remember and watch for when the Kentucky Derby is because everyone wears such tremendous hats! (Side note: Kate and William's royal wedding will be another hat watching event this April--fun!)

I have especially loved wearing hats in the winter, it makes it a little more fun when heading out in the yuck! Last Christmas I asked for, and received, a brown corduroy newsboy hat from Lands End and I love it! It made me happy when I came across it in the winter hat and mitten storage. I try to remember to wear it whenever I can. I think it looks a little bit like an old man hat, but I don't care! I am even keeping my eye out for one the same style but more lightweight for spring! Last June, I bought the ultimate straw hat from a vendor at the Lilac Fest, I strung some beads on the ties and I wear it mowing the lawn and gardening and any other time I think of it--again I am sure it looks a little crazy sometimes--more old lady than old man this time, but again, I don't care!

Naturally I am trying to pass on my addiction to Sofia! I kept her in hats as an infant and mom and I spent a good while looking for the perfect winter hat for her as a toddler, all pink and fuzzy with tassels on top and a Velcro closure under the chin, she wore that one for several years...love it! German and I bought her the denim Dora one on a trip to Puerto Rico near her 4th birthday and I love that she still wears that one too! Her fave for a long time is the one Aunty Alice sent one year, maybe her 2nd Xmas? It is a hand-knit one from an art show (no doubt) and looks like a strawberry! She called it her cherry hat for years! She can still wear that one, it stretched! Also last fall, I bought her the fashionable orange crochet hat that is all the rage these days, it came with a contrasting ribbon and was from a consignment shop here in the village, sooo cute. I can't say that I love baseball hats, however, I can't keep them on my big melon, but I think everyone should top it off with a hat and enjoy!!!
